This Month: 26th March - The Warehouse Theatre starts at 7:30pm

This month we will be reading ‘Our Town’ by Thornton Wilder. Edward Albee described it as “the greatest American play ever written”. It has won many awards, The Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938, a Tony Award for Best Revival in 1989 and in the same year Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival.

'Our Town' is a fairly short three act play set in the small town of Grover's Corner and depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually (in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre), die. A stage manager narrates and it is intended to be performed with minimal props and sets.

It is a masterpiece of writing that has a long history of being performed from its opening on Broadway at the Henry Miller’s Theatre on 4th February 1938 to the most current production and adaptation by the Welsh National Theatre at Venue Cymru in Wales and starring Michael Sheen.  Tickets are available now. So, that could be a road trip for us all!!

But…seeing as that is very unlikely, please come along and join in reading the play at the Warehouse Theatre! It is much closer, plus you get to take part too. There are plenty of roles for everyone and don’t worry about accents – American or Welsh.

Hope to see you there,

Irene
